The Phase 2 project was a continuation of the ongoing development of NMRP and can generally be described as the enabling works necessary to accommodate the future development at the Park. Metric led the design-build team which included coordinating 10 subconsultants who completed the mid-point (50%), detailed design (90%), and IFC design packages. Metric was also responsible for obtaining permits from several authorities having jurisdiction (i.e., City of Vaughan, Region of York, TRCA, and MECP).
Specific construction activities carried out by Metric include:
- Earthworks and Grading – movement of 500,000 m3 of material throughout the 130-acre site; creation and execution of an on-site remediation program for soils exceeding Table 2
- Roadworks – Construction of 1700m of new asphalt roadway (8.6m wide road and 6.5m wide multi-use path) including 4 elevated crosswalks and 6 driveway entrances
- Site Servicing (Wet Utilities)
- Sanitary Sewers – 1,394m of sanitary sewers (diameters 150 to 250), 27 maintenance holes (3m to 6m depth, 1200mm dia), and a sewage pumping station.
- Watermain – 2,351m of watermain (diameter 150 to 400), 21 hydrants, 2 autoflushers, a valve chamber, and a water meter chamber
- Storm Sewers – 170m of concrete storm pipe, two maintenance holes (150mm dia and 2400mm dia) and two storm headwalls
- Site Servicing (Dry Utilities)
- Primary Power – Installation of 744m of 8×4” C.E. ductbank, 1,256m of 6×4” C.E. ductbank, 9 pull vaults, and 8 transformer pads.
- Communications – Installation of 2,000m of 2×4” conduits for communications, and 10 grade-level boxes
- Street Lighting – Supply and install of street lighting for the road and multi-use path including 1,720m of lighting conduits and wires, 62 poles and bases, and 124 luminaires.
- Natural Gas – Installation of a natural gas header station, 1000m of feedermain and a gas connection to the onsite sewage pumping station
- Coordination with Alectra Utilities, Bell Communications, and Enbridge Gas
- Natural Heritage – Restoration of 2 Provincially-Significant Wetlands (PSWs) in collaboration with TRCA; creation of a wildlife corridor with wet pockets, creation of 2.4 hectares of onsite meadow; supply and install of a 64m-long wildlife underpass, and 500m of wildlife fence.
- Landscaping – Installation of 181 trees, 30 hectares of seeding, and 19,600 m2 of sodding
- Cricket Pitch – Construction of a Category 2 cricket pitch including 9kms of subdrain, fully automated irrigation system, sports field lighting, artificial turf wicket, spectator area, scoreboard, practice batting cage, and site screens.
- Event Lawn – Implementation of a subdrainage network and automated irrigation system.
- North Entrance Intersection Signalization and Widening of Keele Street to support turning lanes into and out of the Park.
