New Rail Maintenance Facility Development with an area of 30 ha. Scope of work included excavation and grading, new railway construction, underground site services (watermain, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer including underground water storage facilities), excavation and backfill for new buildings, and placing granular for slab-on-grade.

Specific activities carried out by Metric include:

  • Excavation for subgrade preparation, stripping cut to fill, excavate and dispose of offsite 185,000 m3
  • Detailed excavation and backfill for foundations, including frost protection insulation 31,000 m3
  • Supply and place granular for slab on grade 15,000 tonnes
  • Supply and place granular for temporary roads, parking and laydown areas 10,000 tonnes
  • Place granular as subballast and other granular for rail lines 70,000 tonnes
  • Construction of a stormwater management pond including excavation, granular stone roads, geo-synthetic clay liner, riprap lining on the sides and bottom, armourstone structures 25,000 m3
  • Watemain installation, various sizes (100 to 300mm dia) including appurtenances 4,600m
  • Watermain valves – various sizes including chambers 70 each
  • Watermain fire hydrants – various sizes 30 each
  • Sanitary sewer installation, various sizes (PVC 100 to 375 mm dia) including 30 manholes 1,800m
  • Storm sewer installation, PVC various sizes (PVC 200 to 450mm dia) 940m
  • Storm sewer installation, reinforced concrete pipes various sizes (RCP 200 to 2100mm dia) 4,920m
